Music

ATLX is proud to host three of Atlanta’s premiere swing era bands at this year’s exchange. From a gypsy jazz-style small combo to authentic big-band sound to a small jazz and blues group, all of this year’s bands frequently cater to the lindy hoppers of Atlanta. We’re excited to have them playing for us at this year’s ATLX.

Gypsy Hicks

Friday Night: Jambiance (aka the Gypsy Hicks)

Website: www.myspace.com/thegypsyhicks

Jambiance plays 1930's swing in the style of the Hot Club of Paris made famous by legendary guitarist Django Reinhart. Jambiance strives to re-create the sound of French bistros and cabarets where this blend of musette, gitane, and "le jazz hot" originated. Currently with Stew Magee on trumpet and Rich Jones on clarinet/sax, Jambiance is sure to wow dancers as they have at previous events, including 2009’s Southern Belle Swing Bash and Atlanta Varsity Showdown.
Still Swinging

Saturday Night:Still Swinging, with Les Still

Website: www.stillswinging.com

Still Swinging was founded in 1997 by Les Still, a native of Cobb County, Ga. Still, a trombone player, received his music degree from Jacksonville State University, Alabama. Following his lifelong dream, Still spent months researching the best jazz musicians in Atlanta. He has assembled a roster of the finest trumpet, trombone, saxophone and rhythm players in the metro area to create just the right blend. The final product is a unique sound that truly captures the essence of the swing era. Audiences invariably vow that they are in the presence of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey or Benny Goodman when they hear the authentic big band recreation of all the great old charts.
Graveyard

Sunday Night: The Gravediggers

Website: www.myspace.com/gravediggersband

The Gravediggers are the house band for the Graveyard Tavern in East Atlanta Village, playing a mix of swing, jump blues, boogie woogie and jazz standards, featuring Atlanta music veterans James Brooks on guitar and vocals, Bob Page on piano and vocals, and Bill Burke on bass. The Gravediggers band played at last year’s ATLX 6 and received fantastic reviews all around; we are thrilled to have them back this year.
